The system was running extremely slow and I noticed some programs would no longer work (like windows works). One was an error that stated “GfxUi Has Stopped Working… Windows is checking for a solution to the problem” (it had a green status bar while attempting to find a solution) the other error\pop up that stated “Hp wireless Assistant Has Stopped Working… Windows is checking for a solution to the problem” It had a ~ and\or $ caricature in he file name and I believe some numbers as well. I can’t remember the exact name, but it was something stating “audio” in the file name. It also had a hidden windows works files. My desktop had two hidden files on it that were not there before and were both named the same thing, “desktop.ini”. The system then booted up and I could see my normal desktop but thinks were far from normal. After clicking “okay” it ran the CHKDSK utility on the main drive. It ran the system restore process and then showed the error “An Unspecified Error Occurred During System Restore (0X80070002)”. At that point I went into system restore again and picked a date from about a week ago. I forced turned the computer off with the power button again and then F8ed into pre-boot system options.I attempted to boot into safe mode, but was again meet with the same “Cannot Find Script File C:\windows\run.vbs” error and a black screen. I forced shut the laptop down and pressed F8 to get into some pre-boot options. If I clicked on the “okay” button of the error it would just pop back up again. The screen was completely black at that point after getting the error. I was meet with an error after booting up that stated “Cannot Find Script File C:\windows\run.vbs”. The system restore finished and rebooted my laptop.

After clicking on the file it ran a very quick process. The file was stated as a “setup.exe” file. I attempted to install a program that came from a less than reputable source (I know, I know…. I hope I’m posting this in the correct location. I will attempt to explain what happened and what I have done so far to attempt to fix this issue. I’m here because I believe I have been infected with a “trojan.genericKD” virus but it’s still unclear to me.
